I am a P.h.D candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, working with Professor Na Wei. Before this, I earned my master's degree and then worked as a Research Associate in the School of Environment at Tsinghua University and Southern University of Science and Technology, respectively. Before moving to UIUC to continue my P.h.D program, I was a graduate student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Science at the University of Notre Dame (2019.8-2021.8).
My Ph.D. research lies at the intersection between environmental engineering and synthetic biology, with a particular focus on repurposing proteins/enzymes to engineer new types of biomaterials and bio-nano materials for beneficial environmental applications (e.g., resource recovery, waste-to-value biotransformation), and the long-term goal of my research is to contribute to achieving environmental and resource sustainability by harnessing the power of synthetic biology and protein engineering. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing with my little boy, watering our small garden, and meeting and learning from new people with different cultures. I also do some running and cycling during my spare time. |
